3D rendering of partial dentures being placed on a lower jaw with missing back teethWhen you lose a tooth, it's not just the visible part that you have to worry about. The health of your whole mouth can be affected. That's why replacing a tooth is essential as soon as possible. There are several ways to do this, including partial dentures, dental bridges, and implants.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are an excellent option to consider. They fill in the gaps left by your missing teeth and help to prevent your other teeth from shifting out of place. They're also relatively affordable and easy to keep clean.

Tooth Extraction

Sometimes, you may need to have a tooth extracted before getting a partial denture or dental bridge. This is usually the case if the tooth is damaged or decayed beyond repair. Tooth extraction is a relatively simple procedure that any of our dentists can do.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is another option for replacing missing teeth. It essentially bridges the gap between two healthy teeth. Dental bridges are usually made of porcelain or ceramic and can match the color of your natural teeth. They're also a more permanent solution than partial dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are another option to consider if you're missing one or more teeth. They're a more expensive option but also the most permanent and realistic-looking solution. Implants are anchored into your jawbone, functioning like your natural teeth.

Procedure for Dentures

The first step is to consult Dr. Anna Grace Clayton at South Main Dental to see if dentures are the best solution for you. If so, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and gums. These impressions will be used to create a model of your mouth, which will be used to create your dentures.

Once your dentures are ready, you will need to have them fitted. This involves placing the dentures in your mouth and making any necessary adjustments. It's essential to ensure that the fit is comfortable and that the dentures stay in place.

You may need to wear your dentures for a few days before they feel completely comfortable. Be patient and take the time to get used to them. With proper care, your dentures can last for many years.

Caring for your Dentures

Brush your dentures at least once a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. You can also use a denture cleaner to help remove plaque and bacteria.

Be sure to brush your gums, tongue, and roof of your mouth gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. This helps stimulate circulation and helps remove plaque from these areas.

Rinse your dentures after eating. This helps remove food particles and plaque. Also, soak your dentures overnight in a mild denture cleaner to help remove plaque and bacteria.

See our dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. Even if you have dentures, it's essential to see the dentist every six months. They can check for signs of gum disease and make sure that your dentures are still fitting properly.

If you have any questions or concerns about your dentures, contact our dentists at 662-489-7768. They will help you find the best solution for your needs.
